Coming soon! Please check back later for the 2020 Forensic Fire Death Course opening!

How do I get on the waiting list?

To be placed on the waiting list please go to the course registration page and click the register button. Then select the "Waiting list Ticket" and fill out the information requested. Please use only student information not trainig staff info.

Why can I only select one ticket for registration? I need to register more than one.

We only allow one registration and payment per student, each student must register with their information and not training staff information. This is to ensure that students will receive any last minute correspondence need prior to the course.

Can my training staff register for me?

Yes, but we do not recommend it. There is a lot of detailed information needed for the student to register so that we may place the students into the appropriate teams. And you must put in the contact information for the student, not training or finance staff. We can not emphasize this enough!

Can I only pay by credit card?

You may pay by check by registering on the waiting list and then sending your check in the mail. But your spot will not be guaranteed until payment is received and the spot you want may be gone by the time your check is received. If your spot is taken while your check is in the mail we will hold the check in case the there is an opening due to other cancellations.

Payment Deposits

You may hold your spot in the course by paying a $200.00 deposit to hold your spot. Full payment is due 60 days prior to the start of the course or you will be dropped from the course. This deposit is only refundable 60 day prior to the course. After 60 days the deposit is retained.

I need to cancel my attendance

You can cancel by using the link in the confirmation email or by logging into your account and going to "My Course History" in the student menu and clicking the cancel button. If it is less than 60 days before the start of the course you will not have that option to cancel and you must contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Items such as brim hats and long selves are recommended, and you are welcome to bring any equipment and PPE you would like to use. John Madden

CFEI, Arson Investigator

Chief Executive Officer

CEO John Madden is a 43 year veteran of the Fire Service. John began his career as a Reserve Fireman in 1968 after returning from Viet Nam and serving in the United States Navy. John spent the next 23 years in the capacity of Reserve Fireman, Fireman and ending his career as a Fire Engineer after an untimely back injury.

After moving from Thousand Oaks, CA to Paso Robles, CA. John was hired in 1990 by the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department as a Fire Inspector/Arson Investigator. During John’s career with SLOFD he received numerous commendations from State Legislators and Congressional leaders for his work at starting up the county wide arson task force known today as the San Luis Obispo Fire Investigator Strike Team as well as his many arrests and convictions of arsonists over his term of service, retiring in 2010.

After a case he worked with his partners with the San Luis Obispo Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department in 2005, John developed what is known today as the world renowned “Forensic Fire Death Investigation Course” in 2008, that brings together investigators from all over the world in a multi-disciplinary environment to solve real life cases of a victim in a fire situation. This can be from a structure fire, vehicle fire or a roadside dump. Our students learn from one another how each discipline works to solve a difficult case of a victim who’s suffered from 3rd to 4th degree burns.
